SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 2005--Webshots
(www.webshots.com), a leading online photo sharing Web site(1) and a
property of CNET Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:CNET), today announced that on
Sunday, August 7th, 2005, the 250 millionth digital photo was uploaded
to its site, making Webshots the largest public photo library
available online. With this milestone, Webshots, which attracts a vast
community of people from around the world to help them express and
entertain themselves as well as connect with others to share their
common interests and passions, has seen its photo library triple in
size over the last year.
"When we acquired Webshots last August, we were excited to welcome
the largest photo sharing Web site into our network, and made a
commitment to continue to build the product and enhance its services
so we could keep that momentum going," said Martin Green, corporate
vice president in charge of CNET Networks' Webshots and CNET
Download.com divisions. "We're very proud of this milestone, which to
us represents the successful integration of our teams, and our ability
to scale Webshots' capacity as we enhance the service to attract a
much higher level of participation from our members."
The 250 millionth photo was uploaded to Webshots by Geoffrey Dela
Cruz, who used the site to share photos of his cousin's wedding. To
celebrate this milestone, Dela Cruz won a brand new 5 mega-pixel
digital camera and custom merchandise from the Webshots online store.
"I have friends and family all over the United States and I have
friends serving in Iraq. Webshots brings us closer together by helping
me share the pictures I have of all the fun times we've had together,"
said Dela Cruz.
As Webshots continues to grow, it is dedicated to maintaining a
high level of customer service. While expanding its technology
platform to accommodate the continuous high volume of photo uploads,
the company has simultaneously enhanced its photo sharing
capabilities, enabling consumers to search and access photos in the
library quickly and effortlessly. Meanwhile, Webshots' photo approval,
monitoring and editorial practices allow it to maintain a high degree
of service integrity.
Webshots, established in 1995, is the largest and one of the
fastest-growing photo sharing communities on the Internet. More than
24.5 million unique visitors worldwide visited Webshots in June 2005,
